girls LEAD - tapos na!

For months Suzie, Kate and I have been preparing for our four-day camp that went down June 1-4 without a hitch. We are so proud of the girls. We had 10 participants from my center and 10 from Kate's center. Sherry also came down from Baguio to help. The idea for L.E.A.D. (Leadership, Empowerment through Active Decision-making) was born back in October at a DSWD/P.C. conference. We got a grant from USEC and some local donors to sponsor, and focused on building self-esteem and leadership skills. We did yoga every morning, taught them ridiculous ice-breakers that they loved, and had them practice facilitating workshops as part of the "echo" component (they will replicate these workshops when they go back to their respective centers). It was such a success that we are already talking about when and where to hold the next one. the past four days reminded us all of why we joined Peace Corps in the first place. This really can be the most overwhelmingly rewarding experience.
